Central Celebrations - 2011

The central celebrations of our 300th anniversary took place on the 21st and 22nd October, 2011. On the first morning our guests and students attended chat programmes with the alumni of our school, now successful in different fields of life (art, sport, politics). We became acquainted with successful careers. In the afternoon a spectacular Gala performance was organized where well-known figures of the art world paid their tribute to the 300-year-old grammar school.

The formal celebration was held on the second day. After the holy mass in Saint Michael’s Cathedral we inaugurated a memorial tablet on the wall of the former building of the school, then there were further programmes in the current building. First Tibor Navracsics, Deputy-Prime Minister, our alumnus greeted the participants in the name of the Government of Hungary. Then Gyula Porga, Mayor of Veszprém welcomed those present on behalf of the town. The ceremonial speech was given by József Urbán, the deputy leader of the Hungarian Piarist Order. Our students also took part in the programme by giving ceremonial performances.

We also introduced two books to the public in the morning: The History Of The Piarist Grammar School In Veszprém From Its Foundation To Its Nationalization written by András Lichtneckert and Ferenc Tölcséry, and our Jubilee Almanac, which was written and edited by István Asztalos, the current teacher of the school.

The book presentations were followed by the opening of the renewed and improved School History Exhibition.
